Synopsis
An animated short adapted from Rogelio Sinán's classic La cucarachita Mandinga. Three awards at Panalandia Film Festival 2017.
Official selection at Panalandia (Panama), Alucine (Toronto), Anima Latina (Buenos Aires), Philadelphia Latino Film Festival, New York Latino Film Festival, the Panamanian International Film Festival in LA, Kinosmena (Minsk), Festival Ícaro (Guatemala) and Ícaro Panamá, Banaba Human Rights Festival (Panama), Filmfest Düsseldorf, MIRA (Bonn), Arica Nativa Rural FilmFest (Chile), El Heraldo (Tegucigalpa), Buenos Aires para Panamá, HAYAH International Film Festival (Panama) and The Americas Film Festival NY, among others.
The film left the cinema and became an exhibition: everything built to make it was put on show, with an interactive installation that invited the audience to sit in Mandi's chair from the El Maridito show, and with the Mandi puppet, which brought people closest to the character. Out of it came a tour of public conversations around the country on social pressure, gender violence, self-worth and the violence in song lyrics, at the Cine Pobre Panalandia Festival, the Bannaba Human Rights Fest, the International Book Fair, the Afro Cinema Showcase and the Metoo Fest in Chiriquí. During the release, «#yosoymandi» spread across social media.
