Synopsis
Matusagaratí, in Darién, is the largest wetland in Panama and a Ramsar site. Flooded most of the year and hard to reach, it went largely unstudied until 2019, when a team of Panamanian and foreign researchers led by Dr Indra Candanedo began work on its hydrology, vegetation, plants and birdlife with SENACYT funding.
The series is the outreach arm of that research, made alongside our own documentary «La Selva Llama». Two films in 2021, hand-drawn and narrated, explain what the wetland is and how its water moves. Two more in 2025 hand the microphone to the people who live there: the second generation of «Jóvenes por Matusagaratí», and the elders who keep its stories.
